Dr Alvin Ng Lai Oon is a Professorial Teaching Fellow and Head at the Department of Psychology under the School of Science and Technology at Sunway University, Malaysia. He is a clinical psychologist by training, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Western Australia, a Bachelor of Psychology, and a Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) from Murdoch University, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from Lancaster University. 

Previously, Dr Ng was attached with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia) for 11 years as an instructor and practitioner in clinical psychology. He is also currently an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia. Dr Ng’s research areas include mental health literacy, positive psychology, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and cross-cultural factors in psychotherapy. 


Dr Ng has given numerous talks and workshops to organisations, conferences and the public on mental health topics. He won the 2017 EduCoop National Outstanding Educator (Psychology) Award in recognition of his contributions towards the development of psychology in Malaysia. Dr Ng was instrumental in establishing the Malaysian Society in Clinical Psychology in 2010, where he was also the Founding President, and then Vice President from 2017 to 2019.
